Public Equity

Navis manages two public equity funds, all with strong linkages in geography and investment philosophy to Navis’ private equity activities. Over a quarter of the funds under management represents proprietary capital.

The Navis Jockey Fund

The Navis Jockey Fund invests in a concentrated portfolio of carefully selected listed equities where reputable private equity firms own a meaningful stake and the businesses are primarily based in the Asia Pacific region.

We consider the Navis Jockey Fund a “listed equity approach to private equity in Asia”. The Fund only invests in companies that are portfolio companies of private equity or venture capital funds and are also listed.

The Fund focuses on businesses with attractive fundamental characteristics, including strong growth prospects based on sustainable competitive advantage. The Fund’s objective is to achieve returns comparable to top quartile private equity returns, with low fees, high liquidity and subscription/redemption flexibility for investors.

The Navis Al-Bahhar Fund

The Navis Al-Bahhar Fund invests in a concentrated portfolio of Shariah-compliant listed equities focused on Asian businesses that have attractive fundamental characteristics, including high standards of governance and strong growth prospects based on sustainable competitive advantage.

One preferred indicator of higher standards of governance in listed companies in Asia is participation by reputable private equity firms in the equity share capital of those companies. The objective of the Fund is to outperform a reference index comprised of a 50/50 blend of the MSCI AC Asia Islamic index and the MSCI China Islamic index.
